On average, Velux roof windows last around 20–30 years - sometimes longer with proper installation and care.
Already got a Velux?
If yours is over 15 years old, it might be time for a check-up. Common signs it needs attention include:
Leaks in heavy rain
Condensation between panes
Cracks, draughts, or broken opening mechanisms
Can a Velux be repaired, or does it need replacing?
In many cases, yes - you can repair it. Glass units, hinges, seals, and flashing kits can all be swapped without a full replacement. But if the frame is warped or you’re dealing with persistent leaks, a full replacement may be the smarter long-term fix.
Are Velux windows reliable these days?
They really are. Older models (especially from the 90s) could sometimes be draughty or prone to misting up. But the latest designs are better insulated, more durable, and less prone to leaks - especially when fitted properly by professionals.
