When should gutters be repaired or replaced?​

Not every guttering problem needs a full replacement. A leaking joint, loose bracket, blocked downpipe or small damaged section can often be repaired quickly and affordably.

Replacement usually makes more sense when the guttering is cracked in several places, sagging along the roofline, repeatedly leaking after repairs, or fitted to old fascias that are starting to fail. In these cases, another small repair may only delay the same problem coming back.​

As a rough guide, gutter repairs usually make sense when:

• One joint is leaking

• A bracket has come loose

• A downpipe is blocked or damaged

• One short section is cracked

• The guttering is still mostly level and secure

• The fascia behind the gutter is still in good condition

Gutter replacement is usually worth considering when:

• Several sections are cracked, warped or leaking

• The guttering is sagging along the roofline

• Previous repairs have not lasted

• Water is regularly overflowing in more than one place

• The existing system is old, poorly fitted or undersized

• The fascia or roofline behind the guttering also needs attention
